COURT CALENDARS

Criminal Court (2-3 times per month)

Justice Strauss holds Criminal Court in Courtroom #1 on the 1st floor of Village Hall on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of each month, starting at 6pm.

Traffic and Civil Court (2 times per month)

Justice Strauss holds Traffic and Civil Court at 6pm on the 4th
Wednesday of each month in Courtroom #1 on the 1st floor of Village Hall.

Justice Rosario holds Traffic and Civil Court at 6pm on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in Courtroom #1 on the 1st floor of Village Hall.

Check your appearance notification for the specific time you are being instructed to arrive by.

Other Calendars

Hearings, Trials, Building Code Violations, and other court calendars and sessions will be scheduled as needed from time to time. You will be notified in advance if your appearance is required for any of these sessions.

Parking & Traffic Tickets: How to Answer/Pay

NOTE: Do not pay online if your license is suspended or there is a warrant for your arrest

PARKING TICKETS

• Please complete the back of the ticket, sign it, and return it to the Court within thirty (30) days from the date of issue.

• Failure to promptly return the ticket, may cause the fine penalty to double every thirty (30) days, and can lead to you being classified as a scofflaw and the suspension of your license and registration.

There are three payment options:

Enclose a certified check or money order, payable to “Monroe Village Court,” and mail to:

The Court office is located on the SECOND FLOOR OF MONROE VILLAGE HALL. You may pay by cash, certified check, money order, or credit/debit card.

NOTE: Payments are only taken at the window during posted Court office hours. Nobody else at Village Hall can help you when the window is closed.

TRAFFIC TICKETS

If you’ve received notification that your license will be suspended please contact the court office immediately for assistance at (845) 782-8721.

Please sign SECTION B (PLEA OF NOT GUILTY), enter your name, address, and telephone number, and return the signed ticket to the Court by the “plea-by” date on the lower left side of the ticket.

Please fill out and sign SECTION A (PLEA OF GUILTY) and return the signed ticket to the Court by the “plea-by” date on the lower left side of the ticket. Your attention is directed to the information on the lower left side of the ticket regarding your rights when pleading guilty.  Once your ticket is received, a Judge will adjudicate your plea, and you will be notified by mail if any fine or surcharge is due.

SMALL CLAIMS SUITS

To file a claim in the small claims part, you must first make sure that the court has jurisdiction over the defendant (the person you are seeking damages from) and confirm that the defendant lives or does business within the Village of Monroe.

The claim is limited to $3,000 or less.

To commence a small claims action, you must come to the Court Office during business hours, and complete a Small Claims Complaint Form, available at the Court Office.

Filing fees for small claims are:
$10 for claims up to $1,000
$15 for claims $1,001-$3,000
